Fotobeton – Universität Paul Sabatier, Toulouse
Die Universität Paul Sabatier liegt am südlichen Stadtrand von Toulouse und hat sich längst als größte wissenschaftliche Universität im Süd-Westen Frankreichs etabliert.
Die Bibliothek stammt aus den 70er Jahren und entspricht heute somit weder den gestiegenen Studentenzahlen noch den Anforderungen an ein modernes Medien- und Informationszentrum, was eine Erweiterung des bestehenden Gebäudes notwendig machte.
Der beauftragte Architekt Richard Milani vom Architekturbüro Espagno & Milani
aus Toulouse konzipierte hierzu ein Gebäude, das sich klar vom Campus hervorhebt
und gleichzeitig einen unmittelbaren Rückschluss auf seinen Zweck ermöglicht.
L’université Paul Sabatier, située en bordure sud de Toulouse, constitue, de longue date, le plus grand centre universitaire à vocation scientifique du Sud Ouest de la France.
La bibliothèque scientifique dont la construction remontait aux années 70 ne répondant plus aux exigences en matière d’information, de médias et d’accueil compte tenu du nombre d’étudiants en constante augmentation, il a été décidé d’en réaliser l’extension.
L‘architecte mandataire, Richard Milani, de l’agence Espagno & Milani de Toulouse a
conçu un bâtiment se démarquant de l’ensemble du campus en permettant la lisibilité immédiate de sa fonction documentaire et culturelle. [...]

The extension to the library emerges from the existing building and conforms to the
campus’ orthogonal arrangement. A rectangular structure rises up from the fullyglazed
ground floor. The first thing to catch the eye of visitors and passers-by is the unusual texture of the concrete façade. [...]
